Not at all; most people don't. I'll guide you the whole way with small, simple directions, and give you time to relax into it. The best frames usually come once you've forgotten about the camera.

Holiday Mini Sessions happen in two places: Stow House in Goleta on Nov 7 & 8, and on the coast in Goleta on Nov 14 & 15 and Dec 5 & 6.

For most outdoor sessions, the hour or so before sunset, when the light is soft and warm. Headshots work well earlier in the day, in open shade or by a window.

Comfortable clothes you feel like yourself in, in soft, natural tones; avoid large logos and busy patterns.

Yes, if you believe your dog is behaved and trained enough for a short session. A mini is only 20 minutes, so time spent getting a dog to pose comes out of your photo time. If your dog does well with a calm, quiet moment, bring them along.

I go through every frame myself and edit the strongest ones by hand, so you receive a curated gallery rather than a set number; how many depends on the session. Your private gallery follows in about two weeks (always within three). Holiday Mini Sessions include 10 hand-edited images, delivered within 14 days. You can download everything in high resolution and print wherever you like.

I watch the forecast, the wind and the air quality, and I make the call. If I postpone for rain, strong wind or smoke, your mini moves to the rain dates: Sat Nov 21 & Sun Nov 22 for both November weekends, and Sat Dec 12 & Sun Dec 13 for December. I'll try to offer a time close to your original one, in the order sessions were booked. If you can't make any rain-date time I offer, or the rain date is postponed too, you can choose a $150 credit toward any Gabriel Knapp Photography session within 12 months, or a full refund; just tell me by email within 14 days of my note. Coastal fog and soft overcast skies aren't a reason to postpone; they make some of the loveliest light.

You can move your mini once, by email at least 72 hours before your start time, to another open time on the mini session dates, or on the rain dates if I open them for booking. Open times aren't guaranteed, and the fee can't move to a different type of session or to another year.

Holiday Mini Sessions are $150, paid in full when you book with the date buttons above. For a full session instead, send an inquiry through the form on my homepage and I'll reply within 24 hours, often much sooner, with open dates. Once you've chosen one, you'll sign the agreement and pay a 50% retainer online, which holds your date and is nonrefundable. The balance is due two days before your session.
